Winter Challenge Results!
This past weekend was the best finish for the Paradigm Revolution 18s of the 2011 season. The girls finished tied for 3rd in the 40 team VolleyFX Winter Challenge. With DS Katy Herbst out for the weekend and MH Kym Gordon at NYS State Championships for Indoor Track, Revolution came out strong on Saturday morning at Bay Trail Middle School, compiling a 5-1 record to finish 1st in their initial pool. They then moved to Penfield High School and were placed in a Power Pool with 3 other 1st place teams. The girls struggled late on Saturday dropping 3 out of 4 sets to Yorktowne 17s and Yorktowne 18s.
On Day #2, a rejuvenated Revolution showed their potential by beating Durham Attack in 2 sets in the last match of pool play behind the quality serve receive of Mo Ball, Jenn Segar and Emily Litwin. Their quarterfinal match up was against Hocus Pocus Tournament Champion DRVC out of Canada. Dominating middle play by Shannon Kirkpatrick and Gordon helped Revolution disposed of a very good DRVC team in two sets 25-23, 25-22. The girls then ran out of gas versus VFX Magic in semifinals.
Next up for Revolution is Mid-Atlantic Power League in York, PA at the end of March.
After a slow start on Saturday, Rebellion fell to some strong teams that ended up placing 2nd and 3rd place overall. This automatically pushed Rebellion to the Bronze bracket. Obviously disappointed with their play, the girls refocused and made a new goal to win the Bronze Bracket.
After coming in 2nd in their 2nd pool, Rebellion went on to win the pre-quarterfinal match versus Crystal City 25-18, 25-19 and their quarterfinal match versus NY Attack 25-15, 25-13. After dropping the first game of the semifinal match, Rebellion came out on fire and destroyed NFVBs 16-2 team 25-10 the second game. The third game became a battle and Rebellion fell just short 15-12.
Next up for Rebellion is the BNCC Thaw on Sunday, March 26th in West Seneca.

Revolution Takes Silver
This past weekend Revolution placed 2nd in the OVR Regional Challenge in Parma, Ohio. The 2 day tournament gave coaches plenty of opportunities to experiment with different line ups throughout the course of Saturday and Sunday. Emma Lonadier showed her versatility once again by leaving the middle and taking over the setting duties early on Saturday. While setter Maureen Ball joined DS Katy Herbst and Libero Emily Litwin to steady the defense and serve receive. Kym Gordon and Kacey Richards were both huge contributors to Revolutions offense.
After going undefeated in their 1st two pools, Revolution won a tough 3 game semifinal match 15-13 that left them with very little energy for the gold bracket final. The unusual tournament format forced Revolution to play 14 sets on Sunday, which lead to a great deal of exhaustion in the finals. Revolution fought hard, but lost in 2 sets to a scrappy Southwest VBC 17s.
Next up for Revolution and Rebellion is the Capital Hill Classic this upcoming weekend in Washington DC. Revolution will be participating in the 18 Open level while Rebellion will be playing in the 16 Club level.

Can Am Invitational Tournament Summary
Both Paradigm Rebellion and Revolution teams went to Buffalo this past weekend to compete in the Niagara Frontier Can Am Invitational. This 18 & under tournament brought in many competitive teams from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Canada. Both teams worked hard as the coaching staff mixed up line ups each game. Rebellion got their first tournament win on Sunday morning against Titans 16U Black which carried them into the Bronze Playoff Bracket. In quarterfinals, after dropping game one, Rebellion battled back and barely lost game two 25-22 to a tough Premier 16s team.
Being two players short, Revolution coaches got creative with the remaining eight talented players. After struggling early on Saturday, Revolution found success with several players playing in different positions. The changes including putting middle hitter Kym Gordon on the outside, outside hitter Emilyn Kennedy on the right side and outside hitter Emma Lonadier in the middle. As they moved through the day on Sunday, Revolution started to feel more comfortable in their new positions. After their 2nd pool, Revolution defeated Lakeside 18s, Durham Attack 18s and NFVB 18-2s on their way to win the Gold Playoff Bracket.
Next up for both Paradigm teams is the VolleyFX Hocus Pocus tournament at the end of the month. The Hocus Pocus will be the first time that Rebellion will play in a 16 & under tournament, while Revolution will be participating in the NETS portion of the tournament.
